Abstract

449,261. Manually - operated valves. SMYTH, A. D. D., Sidi Gaber, York Road, Woking, Surrey. Dec. 24, 1934, No. 36907. [Class 135] A self-closing push tap comprises a horizontal tubular casing A having a seat B for a valve member C located on the inlet or high-pressure side and carried by a push spindle C<2> supported at both ends of the casing, and an outlet in the form of a grating or a series of openings A<6> remote from the valve and its seating so that the valve cannot be damaged by the insertion of a tool therein. The outer end of the spindle C<2> has a tapered or conical knob C<3>. The casing A is threaded internally to receive the seat B and a ported disc A<3>. The latter forms one end of the casing, and also serves as an abutment for a spring D which aids the water pressure in closing the valve. The valve C, which is of the mitre type, has flats on its sides. In a modification, the valve member has a plane closure surface engaging a similar surface in a multi-ported seat.
