Abstract
448,591. Dolls. BOWERS, C. E., 809, Hill Building, 17th Street, Washington, U.S.A. July 19, 1935, No. 20583. Convention date, July 19, 1934. [Class 132 (iii)]. A doll has an elastic area surrounding the mouth and a sound device which are actuated by pressure on the body. Fig. 1 shows a hollow rubber doll and Fig. 2 shows a doll comprising a fabric covering 14 filled with horsehair, kapok or sawdust 15 adapted to impart to the doll the " feel " of the human body. The head of the doll is hollow and comprises a rigid foundation 25 of hard rubber or moulded composition with a painted elastic covering 26 which may be cemented on to the foundation 25 over practically the whole surface thereof except that portion which surrounds the mouth. The foundation 25 is preferably formed of two portions 25 and 25<1> for facilitating insertion of mechanism described below. The elastic covering 26 adjacent the upper lip of the doll is connected by elastic lugs 68 and 69 to prongs 66 and 67 on pivoted Z-shaped levers 43 and 44 having slots 59 and 58 with which engages the U-shaped link 52 whose legs 54 and 55 are pivoted in the plate 29. The link 52 is pivotally connected to the upper end of a link 62 pivoted at 63 to the spring controlled lever 20 pivoted at 21 and bent at 22 to be connected to a flexible abdominal portion 23 to which pressure can be applied. The elastic covering adjacent the lower lip is connected by a lug 74 and prong 73 to a bell-crank lever 48 pivoted at 46 on plate 29 and connected by link 72 to link .62. A time lag may be introduced between the stretching of the upper and lower lips by having a slot connection between the link 72 and the lever 48. The eyes 78, 79 are gravity operated by weights 83 and may also be operated by lever 20 through slotted links 86 and 87 connected to arms 82 and 82<1>. A bellows 90 can be operated by the lever 20 through the link 91 to give sound suitable for facial expression. In a modified construction the foundation 25 may be omitted and the head made entirely of rubber which is heavy adjacent the plate 29 and thinned down to form the movable portions of the face.
