445,697. Treating sewage. MONTGOMERY, J., The Gables, Couchmore Farm Estate, Esher, Surrey. Oct. 11, 1934, No. 29077. [Class 111] A centrifugal pump 2 is associated with a sludge digestion tank 1 and is connected so that it can circulate and agitate the sludge by withdrawing it through a pipe 5 and returning it through a pipe 6 to a rotary distributer 7 which has depending stirrers 8 and is arranged to rotate in the direction opposite to that in which the sludge is projected. The pump is driven by an electric motor 20, and has additional connections to a source of sludge, from which the tank 1 is supplied through the pipe 6, to sludge lagoons or the like, to which digested sludge drawn from the bottom of the tank through a pipe 4 can be discharged, and to a receptacle to which the contents of the tank can be discharged. A duplicate pump and motor may be connected in the system.
