Abstract

Cellulose ester lacquers, films, plastic masses, and the like contain as softening or gelatinizing agent an ester of a hydroxy polycarboxylic acid with a mono or polynuclear hydroaromatic alcohol. Malic acid dicyclohexyl ester, tartaric dimethyl cyclohexyl ester, tartaric didecahydro-b -naphthyl ester, malic dimenthyl ester, and citric tricyclohexyl ester are specified. The products have increased flexibility, elasticity, and resistance to atmospheric influences. In an example, acetyl cellulose and dimethyl cyclohexyl tartrate are dissolved in ethyl lactate and toluene to form a lacquer. In another example, acetyl cellulose, didecahydro-b -naphthyl tartrate, and tricresyl phosphate are dissolved in ethyl alcohol, acetone, and toluene. The solution is used for making films of high elasticity.
