[Classes 113 (i) and 114] In a system for propelling, manoeuvring, steering, stabilizing, and lubricating the hulls of ships, air induced by the steam jet c, Fig. 2, is passed through the boiler a and the mixture of air and steam is directed down the conduit f and in subsequently passing up the upwardly and rearwardly directed conduit g gives by reaction a forward motion to the ship. A similar arrangement may be applied to the bows to enable the ship to be propelled astern. The discharge conduits g, l at the stem and forward may be duplicated port and starboard so that by controlling suitably the supply of propelling fluid through the various conduits and steering or manoeuvring of the vessel may be effected similarly by supplying the fluid alternately to the port or starboard conduits at suitable intervals the rolling of the ship may be modified. By supplying fluid alternately to the bow or stern, pitching may be quenched. The fluid may also be supplied to longitudinal underwater channels o to lubricate the hull. In a modification the discharge conduits are arranged in stages, the fluid carried off at the top of the first conduit v, Fig. 8, is supplied through the pipe y to the second conduit n.
