Abstract
Permanent magnets are made by casting an iron alloy containing about 7-20 per cent of aluminium, 10-25 per cent of nickel, 1-15 per cent of copper, and over 15 up to about 35 per cent of cobalt, with or without up to a total of 5 per cent of one or more of the elements chromium, manganese, molybdenum, silicon, uranium, vanadium, tungsten, silver, tin, tantalum, and zirconium, and less than 1 per cent of carbon, cooling the casting at a moderate rate, for example in still air or in a furnace, from 850-1350 DEG C., preferably from 1250 DEG C., and thereafter hardening it at 550-725 DEG C., preferably 600 DEG C. Magnets may also be made from alloys comprising over 20 and up to about 35 per cent of cobalt, and the above stated proportions of other elements. Specification 431,660 is referred to.
