Abstract
439,422. Cables. WILLIAMS, A. W., Redhill, Arnold, Nottinghamshire. May 31, 1934, No. 16228. [Class 36] A multicore cable comprises a plurality of power cores 15, each independently screened with a metallic screen 15<c>, and at least one earth core 16, which is not independently screened, the whole assembly having a protective sheath or sheaths 21, 22 of helically wound flat strip metal so applied as to provide a substantially even or uniform surface. The cores 15 are laid around a rubber centre 18 and arc located by pads 19 : additional, bare, earth conductors 20 each extend in contact with two of the screens 15<c>. Insulating sheaths 17, 17<a>, 23 are provided, such sheaths being all of a fireproof material such as asbestos or an asbestos composition or the sheaths 17<a>, 23 being of vulcanized rubber ; alternatively, the sheath 23 may be omitted and the strips forming the sheath 22 secured in position by a wire binding or metal bands. The strips forming the sheaths 21, 22 may be chamfered bevelled or rounded and may be of steel, stainless steel or phosphor bronze. The power cores 15 may be constructed as described in Specification 395,186 or the screens 15<c> thereof may be of helically wound metal strip. The cores 15, 16 may be disposed as described in Specification 390,571. Specification 382,093 also is referred to.
