[Class 141] A swimming suit or like close-fitting garment for ladies' wear has the frontal portion of the upper part divided from the sides, and formed narrower than usual so as to extend only across the breast of the wearer, the side edges of this portion being convexly curved so that it is widened substantially at the point of maximum bust measurement, while the part of each side portion corresponding to this curved portion is either substantially straight or convexly curved so that when the edges are attached together, a certain fulness is produced in the region of the breasts. Preferably, the sides are provided by two separate inserts. In the form shown, applied to a bathing costume having a low-cut back, each insert 7 begins from the point where the usual shoulder straps 8 are attached to the garment and is formed in a convex curve 3x corresponding to the convexly curved part 3 of the frontal portion 1, and is shaped at its lower edge 4<x>, 5<x> so as to occupy a substantially semicircular cut-out, which extends down at 4 from the edge of the frontal portion 1, and bends upwards at 5 to meet the top edge 6 of the back of the garment. The free edges 9 of the inserts 7 are cut substantially straight but, in position on the wearer, appear to be continuous with the curved edge of the back, and are hemmed over, and may be threaded with elastic. The body portion of the garment is knitted, in the usual way, with ribs running longitudinally, while the inserts are kntted with ribs running parallel to their free edges 9. As applied to garments which are not low-cut at the back, the edges 9 of the inserts, instead of being free, are secured to corresponding edges of the back portion.
