Abstract
422,798. Electric welding. EVANS, O., 27, Chancery Lane, London.-(Allgemeine Elektricitats-Ges. ; 2, Friedrich Karl-Ufer, Berlin) Aug. 14, 1933, No. 22655. [Class 83 (iv)] In the electric-flash welding of carbon steels containing a high carbon content (i.e. over 0À35 per cent), or of alloy steels, the upsetting pressure is greater per surface unit of the surfaces to be welded than the tensile and compressive strength per surface unit of the metal in the plastic state at the region of the weld. In the case of steels of the kind indicated and having a strength of 50 kgs. per square m.m., or over, the upsetting pressure is greater than 2 kgs. per square m.m. The length of the heating zone may be increased sufficiently to ensure that the upsetting pressure takes effect at the weld.
