Abstract

421,680. Gramophone records. WHYTE, S., Rostherne, Upper Bridge Road, Redhill, Surrey, and SPEED, A. J., Jedlea, Compton Place Road, Eastbourne. Oct. 26, 1933, No. 29773. [Class 40 (ii)] The central aperture 9 in a gramophone record is made of such a size as to fit snugly over a round turntable pin 1 of normal diameter, and is of regular polygonal form, having not less than eight and not more than fourteen sides. The object of the invention is to provide improved means for preventing slipping of the record when in use, the polygonal aperture being designed to co-operate more effectively with a spring blade 7 provided in known manner in a slot in the turntable spindle. The specified minimum limit in the number of sides in the polygon is necessary to avoid moulding difficulties, while the upper limit is chosen to ensure that a flat side of the polygon will be large enough for effective engagement with the spring blade. According to the Provisional Specification, the hole in the record may be mainly circular, with one or more flats or recesses at the periphery ; or it may be formed as a curved-sided figure, or like a ratchet wheel.
