Abstract
Resinous condensation products are prepared by heating cyanuric acid in the presence or absence of other substances capable of forming resins with formaldehyde with formaldehyde in the presence of a diluent at temperatures not exceeding 160 DEG C. until dissolution has taken place and then removing the diluent under reduced pressure. Acid condensing agents such as hydrochloric acid or acetic anhydride may be used. Other substances that may be added include urea, thiourea, aromatic amines such as aniline, toluene sulphonamide and phenol. The products are soluble in water and organic solvents such as acetone, cyclohexanone, dioxane and glycol monoalkyl or monoaryl ethers. In examples, cyanuric acid is condensed with aqueous formaldehyde under various conditions of acidity, the product, if desired, being condensed with further quantities of formaldehyde; (8) cyanuric acid is condensed with formaldehyde in the presence of dioxane; (9) cyanuric acid and formaldehyde are condensed with urea or thiourea.
