429,834. Permutation locks. DONOVAN, A. M., The Lawns, Upminster Road, Hornchurch, Essex. Nov. 24, 1933, No. 32949. [Class 44] [See also Group XXXI] A bolt 6, subject to the setting of permutation locking rings 10, is slidably mounted in a bracket 8 secured to a clamping member 4 adapted to embrace a tubular stay of a bicycle or the like in the vicinity of the chain or sprocket wheel so that the bolt may be projected between the spokes thereof, being normally withdrawn to a limited extent. The nut 21 securing the clamping bolt 20, is located within the bracket 8 so that it cannot be manipulated when the locking bolt 6 is in position. The locking rings 10, which are of the kind comprising inner and outer parts to enable the code to be altered, are rotatable on a boss 9 forming part of the bracket 8 and through which the bolt 6 passes, radial lugs 11 on the bolt protruding through an axial slot in the boss to co-operate with corresponding passages in the rings. The rings, together with dividing plates 16 restrained from rotation by lugs 17 engaging an axial groove in the boss, are retained on the boss 9 by a face plate 12, a threaded stem 13 of which passes through the boss and is secured by a nut 14. Rotation of the face plate when in position is prevented by a triangular boss 15 thereon engaging a corresponding recess in the boss 9. Rotation of the nut 14, when the bolt 6 is in position, is prevented by the closeness of these members, the nut being of ordinary hexagonal form or formed with serrations to engage the bolt 6, Specification 392,501 being referred to in this connection. Alternatively, the face plate 12 may be secured to the boss 9 by a bayonet connection or slot and dovetail joint or by screw threads. The bolt 6, which is provided with a handle 19, may be grooved to carry a spring clip or staple 18 to limit withdrawal when unlocked or, instead of a clip, a sleeve or collar may be mounted loosely on the bolt normally in rear of a lug thereon, a groove in the collar being brought into alignment with the lug when it is desired to dismount the bolt.
