Abstract

413,922. Door-operating appliances; checks. TRIGGS, W. W., 57, Lincoln's Inn Fields, London.-(Yale & Towne Manufaoturing Co.; Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A.) Nov. 4, 1933, No. 30727. [Class 65 (i).] A spring closing and fluid check device for doors is provided with a pair of springs acting cumulatively to rotate the driving shaft in the closing direction but extending in diametrically opposite directions relatively to the shaft so that their thrusts against the shaft balance. The form shown is designed to be concealed in the top of a door, the main shaft 14 being operated by an arm 15 fixed on it and connected by a link to the door frame ; the device is shown in the open position of the door, the door hinge being adjacent on the right, and the arrangement is such that the arm 15 moves through approximately 180‹ relative to the door, in a clockwise direction in plan, during the closing movement. The shaft 14 carries a pinion 28 engaging with a rack 29, having an abutment for the left-hand spring 31, and a similar rack (not shown) in front engaging the right-hand spring. The lower part of the shaft 14 carries another pinion 37 engaging with a rack 38 attached to a check cylinder 41 sliding over a fixed piston 42, the whole lower part of the casing of the apparatus forming an oil reservoir. The piston has an axial passage connecting the exterior with the interior of the cylinder through a ball valve 47 for the admission of oil, and escape of oil during closing takes place through two check valves (not shown), having stems 51 for adjustment, the exhaust port of one of the valves being covered before the closing movement is completed.
