Abstract

411,327. Screw fans. WEBER, M., 201, East Delaware Place, Chicago, U.S.A. Aug. 22, 1933, No. 23381. [Class 110 (i).] A fan or propeller wheel driven by an electric motor M has five radial blades 14, each of which has a driving face 20 in the form of a longitudinal flat surface twisted so that its pitch decreases uniformly from the inner to the outer portion. The rear face 21 of each blade acts as a suction surface and is curved as shown in Fig. 8. The front end of the hub terminates in a point 17 and its periphery is formed by five surfaces 18 which produce air streams. These surfaces are concave, and extend from the point 17 to the central portion of the hub. When the fan wheel rotates, a central column of helically moving air is projected forward from the hub surfaces 18 and an outer stream is projected from the blades 14. The hub and blades are preferably cast in one piece.
