Abstract
Gases, produced by the thermic treatment of hydrocarbons which contain acetylene and small quantities of diacetylene are freed from the latter by washing them at temperatures between 0 and -30 DEG C. with ketones or mixtures thereof with other solvents, e.g. aldehydes, the quantity of solvent only being sufficient to dissolve a small proportion of the acetylene. In an example, a dry gas mixture containing acetylene, hydrogen, methane, nitrogen and diacetylene is washed with acetone, the quantities of acetylene and diacetylene dissolved being stated. By reducing the pressure on the saturated solvent or by passing a stream of nitrogen through it, the acetylene and diacetylene are recovered. The diacetylene may also be separated by freezing, or by raising the temperature of the solution. The gases may be treated in immersion columns in which the gases and solvent flow in countercurrent.ALSO:Gases, produced by the thermic treatment of hydrocarbons which contain acetylene and small quantities of diacetylene are freed from the latter by washing them at temperatures between 0 and - 30 DEG C. with ketones or mixtures thereof with other solvents, e.g. aldehydes, the quantity of solvent only being sufficient to dissolve a small proportion of the acetylene.
