Abstract

401,718. Pivots for chairs. LEABANK MANUFACTURING CO., Ltd., Charlton Meade Works, and KENT, F. W., The Hollies, Ware Road, both in Hoddesdon, Hertfordshire. May 18, 1932, No. 14150. [Class 65 (ii).] An adjustable back-rest of a chair is carried on a pillar 1, Fig. 1, which is pivoted to a link 2 pivoted to a member 3 fixed to the seat, and a multiplate friction clutch is provided on the two pivots, the clutch plates being so interconnected that both pivots can be locked in adjusted position by means of a single clamping nut 8. The pillar 1, Fig. 2, is of channel section and houses a set of plates 9 secured by means of a pin 4. A second set of plates 11 is secured in the channel member 3. A third set of plates 10 is carried by the pivots 5, 7, between the links 2, 2, intermeshing with the plates 9 and 11, and tightened by means of a bolt 6 and wing-nut 8. The plates may be of thin steel, or may be faced with friction material.
