Abstract

In the manufacture of a substitute for leather &c. in which fabric is impregnated with rubber, vulcanization is effected by passing the material through a chamber containing sulphur chloride vapour at 130 DEG F., and thence through a chamber containing anhydrous ammonia. A subsequent coating of rubber is treated with a solution of sulphur chloride, heated, and neutralized.
