Abstract
396,408. Transformers. FERRANTI, Ltd. and NORRIS, E. D. T., Hollinwood, Lancashire. Feb. 2, 1932, No. 3142. [Class 38 (ii).] In voltage regulators of the type described is Specification 341,903 it has been found that when the short-circuited coil 4, Fig. 2, is in the centre position, the output voltage varies as the load varies since the load current flowing in the coil 1 reduces the leakage flux of coil 2 and thus varies the voltage distribution across coils 2, 3. This has been overcome by arranging one or more pairs of compensating coils 5, 6 disposed to be cut respectively by the leakage fluxes from coils 2, 3 and connected in series so that a current flow takes place which maintains the two leakage fluxes constant. The dimensions of the coils may be varied so that they link with varying amounts of leakage flux. The coils are arranged in slots in the core with their axes at right-angles to the main coils. In a modification, Fig. 5, the coils 5 are arranged to link also with the leakage flux at right-angles to the plane of the laminations.
