Abstract

394,969. Supporting electric-lamp holders. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO., Ltd. and QUANCE, F. G., Magnet House, Kingsway, London. Nov. 4, 1931, No. 30576. [Classes 39 (ii), 75 (iii), and 75 (iv).] An electric-lamp holder 13 is detachably connected with a tube 3 in a canopy &c. and through which the leads pass by means of cranked arms 15 on a ring 14, secured to the holder, engaging clips 7 carried by cranked arms 5 on a disc 1 secured to the tube. Each clip 7 comprises a truncated metal cone 9 and a washer 10, slidably mounted on a bolt 8 and pressed together by springs 12. The arms 15 have a knife edge 18 and a slot 19, bevelled at the inner end. To attach the holder, it is pushed towards the disc 1, the cones 9 acting on the ring 14 to centre it relatively to the disc. The holder is then turned to engage the knife edges 18 with the cones and moved down, while still being rotated to retain the knife edges in contact with the cones, until the knife edges enter annular recesses formed bv annular rounded shoulders 11 on the cones and washers. On rotating the holder, the knife edges force apart the cones and washers, the slots 19 engage the bolts 8 and the springs 12 force the cones and washers into the bevels so that the holder is clipped firmly in position but is resiliently supported. The holder may be adjusted by reversing the ring 14 or by screwing the bolts 8 in the arms 5, thereby also adjusting the springs. In a modification, the cones 9 are fixed and provided with hollow spring plungers sliding on the bolts. The holder may be rigidly secured in a lantern, the ring 14 being mounted on the top of the lantern.
