Abstract
380,315. Motor power plant. KUMMER, E. SAHLI-, Knonau, and SAHLI, A., 120, Kalkbreitestrasse, Zurich, both in Switzerland. Dec. 14, 1931, No. 34650. Convention date, Dec. 15, 1930. [Class 110 (iii).] The exhaust gases from an internal-combustion engine 1 flow directly to a gas turbine 2 then pass through a conduit 6 to a heater accommodated in the cooling jacket of the engine 1 to generate steam which is supplied through a conduit 8 to a steam turbine 3. The exhaust gases pass to atmosphere through a pipe 7, or may preheat water for the steam generator. Steam from the turbine 3 passes to a condenser 10 and is led back to the cooling jacket of the engine 1. The steam may pass through a superheater in the conduit 5. Expansion of the gases in the turbine 2 is preferably isothermal. The turbines 2, 3 have a common shaft and are connected to the crank shaft of the engine 1 by a gearing 4. The steam generator may be separate from the cooling jacket. Steam may be used for cooling the rotor of the gas turbine.
