[Class 38 (iii).] Travelling between predetermined limits.-A feed motor 1 of a slotting or planing machine is started every time a tappet switch 19 is momentarily closed on to contact 21 at the end of each stroke of the machine, and runs for a distance predetermined by the position of a switch 9. Closure on to contacts 21 causes energization of a relay 5 over a stepped drum 7. The relay maintains itself over the drum and causes - closure of contactor 3. The motor 1 drives a shaft 11 and rotates the drum 7 until the circuit of the relay 5 is broken. Whereupon contactor 3 opens and at auxiliary contacts 23 completes a circuit, prepared at contact 20 by return of tappet switch 19 and at contacts 24, 25 closed by a cam 26 as soon as the drum 7 has moved from its initial position, for a coil 18 which frees a band 17 and allows the drum 7 to return to its initial position under the action of a spring 27. A button 28 in parallel with the contacts 19, 21 gives a repeat operation of the motor independently of the tappet switch, and a " continuous " button 29 gives a continuous operation of the motor with the coil 18 energized so that the drum 7 is not displaced. In a modification the direction of rotation of the motor can be preselected.
