362,167. Road vehicle opening tops. BISHOP, W. H. and SMITH, H. A. G., 48, Moor Street, Birmingham. Dec. 11, 1930, Nos. 37350 and 38969. [Class 108 (i).] In road vehicles a flexible roof covering for the whole or part of the roof including the rear end is carried by folding linkwork pivoted on fixed points at the rear and above the waist rail of the body and when folded the whole of the linkwork lies in a substantially vertical position above and at each side of the rear end of the body while the flexible covering hangs downwardly from the lower end of the linkwork and can be rolled or folded. In the linkage for a side car as shown in Fig. 4 the hoopsticks g, h are pivoted to the superstructure at fixed points g<1>, h<1> while the front hoop-stick j is connected to them by links k, l. In the form shown in Figs. 5 and 6 for a long car the hoopsticks m, n are pivoted at m<1>, n<1> and a hoop-stick o is connected to the hoop-stick n by parallel links q, q<1> and provided with a slide travelling in guides p. Further hoop-sticks as shown may extend forwardly. In folded position the hoop-sticks hang downwardly from the fixed points m<1>, n<1> and the fabric covering can be stowed away at the lower end. The slide or slides may be provided with three sets of rollers z, Fig. 13, mounted in vertical slots and provided with a spring z<1> to press the rollers against the upper and lower surfaces of the guide. The roof may be provided with slidable or removable panels in addition.
