Abstract

361,276. Ball and roller bearings. HOFFMANN MANUFACTURING CO. Ltd., Chelmsford, Essex.-(Assignees of Bott, G. R. ; Stamford, Connecticut, U.S.A.) July 28, 1931, No. 21571. Convention date, July 28, 1930. [Class 12 (i).] In a bearing of the open type the open side of the outer race ring 6 has a shoulder 11 to prevent axial separation of the race rings 5, 6, and relative tilting of the rings is prevented by a lubricant sealing device secured to one or both sides of the outer race ring 6. As shown, the sealing device comprises an annular ring 19 of felt or the like held between plate members 14, 17, the plate 14 having an edge 16 which is crimped over an inclined surface 13 on the outer race ring. The balls shown may be replaced by rollers.
