Abstract
369,235. Oil-break switches. JUHLIN, G. A., Redscar, Moss Lane, Timperley, Cheshire, and ASSOCIATED ELECTRICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd., Crown House, Aldwych, London. Dec. 16, 1930, No. 37967. [Class 38 (v).] In an oil-break switch having an " explosion pot" or chamber 1 in which the arc between the contacts 2, 3 is drawn, the chamber being closed by an insulating cover 8 having one or more channels 13 intersecting the contact orifice transversely, the channels communicate through a second oil-filled chamber 9 with the explosion pot, so that a cool reserve store of oil is forced across the arc. One fixed contact of a pair enclosed in the oil tank 5 is shown together with the bridging contact - member 4 of which one contact 3 only is shown. The contact enclosing structure consists of a number of superposed insulating plates 15, 16 all of which are cut away to leave a passage 14 for the oil and a passage 11 for the contact-member. Alternate plates are further cut away at 13 to constitute the transverse passages. The plates may be held apart by spacing washers 21 and are bolted together with an end plate 17. The explosion chamber is lined with a tube 7 of refractory insulating material.
