Abstract
352,819. Universal joints. HARDY, SPICER & CO., Ltd. and HARDY, E. J., Birch Road, Witton, Birmingham. Sept. 22, 1930, No. 28242. [Class 80 (ii).] In a flexible disc for a shaft coupling particularly of the kind described in Specifications 108,659, 113,387 and 325,774, [all in Class 80 (ii), Gearing, Variable-speed &c.], comprising vulcanized layers of woven fabric, the bolt holes are machined in rigid non-circular steel stems 4 which have first been wedged into slightly smaller circular holes 2 in the fabric disc 3. The stems 4 are preferably hexagonal rather than square or triangular and fit flush in riveted endplates 6 having complementary apertures 7. The fabric is not compressed on tightening the bolts, but the stems may be slightly shorter so that this is the case.
