Abstract

350,282. Reversible change-speed gearing. BARFORD & PERKINS, Ltd. and PERKINS, J. E. S., Queen Street, Peterborough. July 8, 1930, No. 20687. [Class 80 (ii).] ] Gearing suitable for driving road vehicles at equal speeds forward and reverse comprises an engine flywheel 1 with opposed hollow cone clutch seatings 2, 3. Coacting male cones 10, 13 are connected by a thrust bearing 11 so as to be slidable together alternatively into clutch engagement. The cone 10 is splined on the outer end 9 of a shaft 5 which carries inside gear casing 7 a pinion 16. The cone 13 is splined to a sleeve 14 on shaft 5 which carries a pinion 18 within the casing. The pinions 16, 18 are connected by reverse-driving bevel or spur trains to a shaft 35, which is connected by twospeed gearing to driven shaft 38. Control is effected by a lever 27 acting through springs 28, 30.
