Abstract

356,284. Mine supports ; wedges. BROWN, S. WALTON-, Seghill Hall, Northumberland. June 6,1930, No. 11196/31. Divided on 356,275. [Class 20 (ii).] A chock or prop-end device has a socket portion and a sliding portion therein adjusted by means of a transverse wedge passing through the socket portion which is provided with a solid bearing part integral with the socket for the wedge to bear upon. The sliding member e is provided with retaining pins 22 engaging slots in the socket f<2> which is integral with the solid bearing part 25 on which the adjusting wedge bears and which may be provided with an apron 26 for securing to the top of a prop 27. The sliding part may be provided with a renewable bearing block 26 or with an adjustable screw head or may be slotted to engage over the flange of a section bar. The wedge k may be provided with retaining projections 23, 24 on its ends, and may be slotted to receive the head of its adjusting bolt 31 which is adjusted by a wedge 32, Fig. 7, or there may be a dovetailed connection between the wedge and its bolt. Interengaging sliding grooves and projections 22a, 22b, Figs. 4 and 5, may be provided on the wedge and sliding part respectively. The wedge adjusting bolt may be provided with elliptically shaped projections 40, Fig. 12, which can pass through a slot 39 in the main socket portion for one position of the bolt, but which engage the face of the slot on rotation of the adjusting bolt, Figs. 11 and 12, thus providing a quick adjustment for the wedge position. A double chock may be formed by connecting two adjustable chocks by means of a cross-bar. Specification 356,275 is referred to.
