Abstract

343,216. Sharpening saws. MODERN WOOD WORKING MACHINES, Ltd., Crown Works, Newfoundpool, Leicester, and EVANS, B., Arthog, Glenhill, Blaby, near Leicester. Dec. 4, 1929, No. 37136. [Class 60.] In a machine for sharpening saws by means of a grinding-wheel 1, the saw 4 is mounted on a pin in such manner that it can be moved parallel to itself to enable a bevel to be ground on the tops of the teeth, set with its plane other than at right - angles to the plane of the wheel 1 to enable the front or back of the teeth to be bevelled, and set with its plane inclined to the vertical. The pin 5 is carried by an arm 13 adjustable angularly on a block 14, which is adjustable on a slide 15, and on the pin is slidable a clamping member 11 having a screwed shank 11a carrying a nut 12 whereby a member 10 is pressed to clamp the saw. The slide 15 carries an adjustable abutment 6a, which, together with a spring-pressed finger 19, supports the saw adjacent the grinding-wheel, and in order to bevel the front or back of a tooth, the slide 15 is adjusted angularly about pivots 21, 22 and locked in position by a wing-nut 26. In order to bevel the tops of the teeth the support 11 is slid on the pin 5 to bring the saw to the positions shown in dotted lines. The pin 5 may be pivotally connected to the arm 13 about a horizontal axis so that the saw can be inclined to a-vertical plane. Band and other saws also may be sharpened in the machine. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 9506/94 and 15374/94, [both in Class 83, Metals, Cutting &c.].
