Abstract

348,681. Lockable gear control levers. CRAWFORD, J. and CRAWFORD, W., 69H, Mabel Street, Motherwell, Lanarkshire. Feb. 12, 1930, No. 4706. [Class 79 (iii).] Apparatus for locking the gear control lever of a motor vehicle is carried by a plate or part secured under the gear box cover so that it cannot be detached without removing the cover, in which case the lever will be removed also, leaving the gear box out of control. A plate A, secured between the gear box C and its cover D in which the control lever B is pivotally mounted, is formed with ears or lugs E to which are pivoted, by means of rivets &c. L, extensions G of an elongated boxlike member F surrounding the control lever. In normal use, the lever moves longitudinally in the box and rocks the box about the pivots L when moved laterally, play being provided for this purpose. In order to lock the lever against longitundial movement, a U-shaped member J is passed through holes H in the box and padlocked in position, thereby retaining the lever in neutral; or the lever may be retained in either end, gear engaged, position by means of a single bar on one side thereof padlocked in position. The box may be replaced by a pair of separate or connected sideplates similarly hinged to the ears E and apertured to receive the locking member.
