Abstract

348,684. Settee bedsteads. FRASER, H. A. and CRIGHTON, P. F., 13, Wharf Road, Islington, London. Feb. 13, 1930, No. 4896. [Class 52 (ii).] In a chair or settee bedstead, a seat section and a back section, together with at least a third section, are interconnected and movable as a whole into line to constitute a bed surface in such a manner that as the sections are being moved into line they are connected to the chair or settee frame solely by a fixed pivotal connection between one of the sections and the frame. Such a device is shown in the Figures, comprising a seat section 15, a back section 7 and a third section 6, pivoted together at 14, 8, the section 6 being pivoted to the settee frame at 9. When catches 28 have been released, the member 15 can be drawn forward, the three sections 15, 7 and 6 then extending to form a horizontal bed surface. In this position, buffers 35 may rest upon brackets 36, and the hinge 9, normally detachable, becomes secured against removal. The spring upholstery with which each section is provided is so constructed that, when extended, at least two of the sections form an uninterrupted resilient surface. Members 39 and a wire 40 may be provided to prevent the upholstery at the top of the back from sagging when the device is in use as a chair.
