Abstract
348,539. Necklaces and other jewellery chain structures. COLLINS, W. H., Excelda Works, Rookery Road, Handsworth, Birmingham. Feb. 12, 1930, No. 4708. [Class 43.] In necklaces, bracelets, and other chain structures and articles of jewellery comprising elements 1 to receive jewels or stones, links 3, and washers or coupling members 9 mounted in the elements and connecting the links together, the washers 9 each comprise an open or gapped loop, Fig. 8, or a loop having open hooks 10, Fig. 3, for receiving the links 3. The elements 1 have claws 4 and a horizontal flange 7, and may be of cup or flat shape. The washer 9 is placed in the element 1 with the hooks 10, whereon the links 3 have been threaded, protruding through openings 8, and the connection is rendered secure by placing a jewel above and fixing with the claws 4. The hooks 10 may be directed downwardly. Alternatively the washers 9 may be of wire or strip material, or may be stamped out of sheet metal, and may carry eyes 11, Fig. 8, with a gap 12 for inserting the links 3. Any number of openings 8 may be provided with corresponding hooks 10 or eyes 11. The base 7 need not be pierced, and the links 3 are preferably closed before assembly.
