Abstract

339,824. Soc. Anon. des Etablissements Tecalemit, (Assignees of Trinquart, L. G.). Jan. 8, 1929, [Convention date]. Addition to 303,799. Gas exits, collectors, and absorbers.-An accumulator is provided with a device employing a catalyst for causing the evolved oxygen and hydrogen to re-combine, the water vapour so formed being condensed and returned, together with water mechanically carried over to the accumulator. Figs. 1 and 2 show two sections of the device comprising a body part 8, 10 and a cover 33 both parts being provided with heat radiating gills 9, 38. The lower' part 10 screws into the lid of the accumulator. Within the device is a member 15 having three passages 16, 17, 18 and two sets of helical grooves 19, 20 on its outer surface. The passage 16 communicates with the interior of the accumulator through an opening 23 and with the grooves 20 through an opening 25. Within the passage 16 are a number of dished members 24 perforated at the bottom. The passage 18 also communicates with the grooves 20 by means of an opening 26, and with the accumulator through an opening 30. Material pervious to liquids but offering a high resistance to the passage of gas, such as glass or asbestos wool, is placed in the passage 18 and recess 29. Above this material are a number of members 32 having wire gauze bottoms. The top of the passage 18 is in alignment with a recess 37 in the cover 33, which communicates by means of a passage 39 with a chamber 41 containing a glass vessel 42 filled with spongy platinum or other catalyst covered with wire gauze. The bottom 43 of the chamber 41 is open and communicates with the groove 19 which is connected at its lower end through a passage 48 with the passage 17 which opens into the accumulator through a hole 52 above which is packing material 51. A vent 49 leads from the passage 17 to the atmosphere. Gases discharged from the accumulator pass through the opening 23, adhering liquid being retained by the members 24. Passing through the grooves 20 the gases reach the passage 18 and pass into the chamber 41 where they combine to form water vapour which is condensed in the groove 19 and passes back into the accumulator through the hole 52. Uncondensed gases escape through the vent 49.
