Abstract

322,992. Kraut, M. June 1, 1929. Worm fans and pumps; helico-centrifugal apparatus.-A combined centrifugal and screw pump of the overhung type has helical vanes 23 attached to a hollow conical extension 22, the base of which 24 forms part of an impeller 25. Fluid admitted through a pipe 14 to an annular space 15 passes by way of a number of ports 16 to the impeller 25 and projected outwards is picked up by the conical helix and delivered at the apex 18 into pipe 20. The runner is driven by a pulley 13 attached to a shaft 12 resting in bearings 9, 10, 11. Fluid leaking into the hollow cone is drained through holes 30 when the runner is stationary or impelled through them when the pump is in motion. The pump may operate with the shaft either horizontal or vertical.
