322,570. Armstrong Siddeley Motors, Ltd., Smith, F. R., and Viale, S. M. Oct. 1, 1928. Casings.-A rotary fan used as a supercharger on an internal combustion engine has a small central chamber 15 containing a bladed rotor 17; a bladeless vortex chamber 10 of considerable radial width extends from the rotor chamber to the annular pipe 7, which communicates by pipes 8 with the cylinders. The conical casing 3 bolted to the engine supports supercharger and encloses the driving gear. Instead of being parallel as shown, the walls of the vortex chamber may be divergent or convergent. The crosssectional shape of the pipe 7 may be varied by bolting to the wall 11 of the vortex chamber, rings 13, 14 of different shapes.
