Abstract
320,855. Atherton, E. W. July 17, 1928. Laminated springs.-Some of the leaves are initially stressed so that as the load increases, the leaves become operative in succession. In the example, shown applied to a vehicle a channelsection framework G clamped to the spring seat is provided at its end with notches, on the underside of which engage pegs secured to the ends of the leaves B, C, D'. These leaves and also the short leaves D<2>, D<3> are held out of action when the vehicle is lightly loaded and are engaged in succession when the load is too great for the upper leaves A<1>, A<2>, A<3>. A helical spring S, which supplements the laminated spring, is in tension under light loads and in compression under heavy loads.
