Abstract
328,390. Morris Commercial Cars, Ltd., and Hamill, W. W. March 18, 1929. Blocks and shoes.-Brake shoes are formed of two pressed metal segments a, a<1> of channel section, having lightening perforations f, the segments being secured together in one construction, Fig. 2, by forming a flange or annulus g, around the edge of the perforations in one segment, such flange being swaged or turned over the edge of the corresponding perforation of the other segment. In another construction, Fig. 3, short tubes i are turned over the edges of both perforations. The edges of the perforations may be of conical form so as to provide a positive dovetail or undercut connection for the tubes i or flanges g. A plate l of hard material for engagement with the operating cam may be either welded to the shoe, Fig. 1, or it and the shoe end may be of dovetail form, Fig. 5. In the latter case, to prevent lateral displacement of the plate, it may be indented along the medium line to engage the recess between the two segments a, a<1> of the shoe. Ribs q may be pressed up from the webs of the segments to increase the rigidity. Grooves may be formed in the webs to receive hooks p for attachment of springs.
