Abstract

Stays.-The hinged lid of a gramophone or other cabinet is supported in an open position by a stay which comprises a strip of springy metal 1 that is pivoted at 2 to the inside of the lid and extends through a slot 6 in a fitting 7 on the cabinet, the stay-bar being so mounted that its lower end is pressed negligently against the guiding member and is adapted to spring laterally into engagement with the end of the guideway when the lid is fully open. As shown, the steel strip 1 is pivotally mounted on the lid by a pin 2 against an inclined member 3 so that the lower end of the strip is pressed laterally against a side of the guide slot 6. A pin 16 at the lower end of the stay-bar engages a guide slot 17, and when the lid 4 has reached the open position the stay springs laterally into engagement with a recess 15 at the end of the slot 6. The fitting 7 may be arranged vertically. The lower end of the stay may be provided with a hole or recess to be engaged by a stationary pin.
