Abstract
316,965. Muchka, J. Aug. 7, 1928, [Convention date]. Purifying liquids. - Water which has been treated with chlorine is, before dechlorination, subjected to mechanical or chemical purification, matter such as iron, most likely to injure the apparatus being removed before matter less injurious, such as manganese. Chlorinated water is delivered by a pipe 9 and channel 15 over a bed 7 of material which will separate suspended matter and iron. The water, after passing through this bed, is collected by a pipe 10 and delivered by pipes 11, 12 and a channel 16 to a bed 8 of pyrolusite or other material which will remove manganese. The water thus treated is collected by a pipe 17 and passed through pipes 18, 4 to a dechlorinating filter 1 of active carbon. The purified water is discharged by pipes 5, 6. The filters 1, 8 are fitted with injectors 3, 14 and vertical pipes 2, 13 by means of which the filtering-material can be washed and circulated. The system of piping and valves is such that any of the three filters can be bye-passed. A chlorine measuring apparatus 26 working on the principle of a galvanic cell is provided in the pipe 4.
