Belts.-V-belts for use with variable-speed expanding cone pulleys and employing cork on their driving-faces have cork pieces 2 on either side or both sides of the main continuous flexible strand 1 of the belt and either extending right across the belt or, Figs. 3, 4, separated by blocks 5 of light wood or by recesses in the washers 3, which lap over the cork pieces on three sides and are connected by bolts, rivets, &c. 4. As shown in Fig. 7, cork inserts 2 may be secured in stampings 6 connected by transverse rods 7 which constitute pivoted connections for leather or metal links 8. The pieces 2 may be oval or round in cross-section or may be rectangular with rounded corners.
