Shearing.-A machine for shearing sheet metal along straight or curved lines, and which may be used either as a portable or fixed device, comprises an electricmotor 10 whose frame carries at one end a handle 11 and at the other end a housing carrying a fixed cutter 50 and a cutter 40 oscillating about a pivot 37. The motor shaft drives through worm-gearing a shaft 18, Fig. 2, provided with an eccentric 25 for driving a link 31 coupled by a slotted pin 33 to the cutter-carrier 34. Packing-strips 52, 53 prevent loss of grease or lubricant from the housing. The cutters are detachable and meet in a vertical plane which is offset from the housing to permit clear visibility of the work. The fixed cutter is carried by a member 44 which is clamped to the housing by a bolt 49, limited angular adjustment of the cutter about the bolt 49 being provided for. The member 44 is provided with a lower face, approximately in line with the movable cutter, for guiding the cut strip down on to the bench. The bearing faces for the cut strip are cut away transversely at 44e, 44<d>, Fig. 4, to allow curved lines to be cut. Ball bearings for the various shafts are provided and an adjustable pin with a ball at its end is screwed into the housing for taking the thrust of the driving worm.
