Aug. 11, 1926 Driving pumps, blowers, and exhausters.-A swash plate unit for concerting rotary into oscillating or reeiprocating motion, applicable to drive semi-rotary pumps &c., comprises, in combination, a rotary shaft 10 mounted in a framework or casing 11 and carrying a swash-block 15, a gyratory ring 16 mounted on the swashblock with a ball bearing interposed, a rocker member 21 engaging the ring so as to be oscillated thereby, and means upon the rotary shaft and the rocker for connecting the one to a source of power and the other to the mechanism to be driven. The swash-block 15 is set at desired inclination by connection of a lug 28 thereon, through a link 29, to a sleeve 30 feathered on the shaft 10 and connected, through ball bearings 31, to a collar 33 carried by an extension 32 of a sleeve 27 screwed into the casing end 13, an adjusting handle 37 and lock nut 34 being provided. The rocker member 21 is mounted in bearings 22, 23 in the casing and, at right angles thereto, carries diametrically opposite pins 19, 20 engaging the gyratory ring 16. The ring 16 is thereby restrained from rotation but remains in the plane of the swash block 15 as this rotates therein. The resulting oscillation of the rocker member 21 may be transmitted through a coupling 24 to a semi-rotary pump 25. By adjustment of the swash block inclination, the motor may be started without load and the stroke subsequently regulated to the delivery required or power available.
