Abstract
280,518. Krupp Akt.-Ges., F. Nov. 11, 1926, [Convention date]. Compound forms; plates and sheets. - Compound sheet-s e.g. of mild steel A, A<1> and of nickel-chromium steel B B<1> are made by assembling billets of the two metals in juxtaposition with the interfaces of the dissimilar metals prepared, as by scouring, for welding, and with the interface of the similar metals left in the rough state. kaolin &c. being placed between these metals to prevent their union. The billets A, A<1> which are larger than the billets B, B' are then welded at their edges to inserts C in order to form a rigid pile which is then heated and rolled, after which the edges are cut off, leaving two separate compound plates. Three compound plates, one coated on both faces and the others coated each on only one face may be similarly made by piling the billets as in Fig. 3. A bi-metallic plate K M, Fig. 4 may be made by preparing the interface for welding, and rolling after heating while enclosed between plates N P which are afterwards removed. The hot rolling may be followed by cold rolling. Specifications 21467/92 and 8242/07 are referred to.
