287,576. Schwanke, E. March 25, 1927, [Convention date]. Dials and scales, illuminating; index hands and pointers : -In a twenty-four hour dial b the hour numerals 13-24 are superposed on the numerals 1-12 and are formed by filaments of gas-filled lamps or luminous vapour lamps a, a<1>. The lamps of the two series are in parallel circuits closed by a switch governed by a clockwork motor so that only the required numbers say "14 " and not " 2," are illuminated. The hands e, f and minute indications g may be formed in the same way. In a modification, Fig. 4, the filaments i of incandecent lamps h are shaped to form the two alternative numbers.
