Abstract
273,666. Mond, A. L., (I. G. Farbenindustrie Akt.-Ges.). May 12, 1927. Sodium or potassium chromates and aluminates; alumina.-Chrome ore is heated with bauxite or other aluminiferous materials in the presence of alkali carbonates or mixtures forming such carbonates at decomposition temperature, so that on lixiviating the product, a solution of chromates and aluminates is obtained. Caustic alkali lye, particularly potash lye, may replace the alkali carbonate. Lime may be added. Alumina may be precipitated after removal of silicic acid by carbon dioxide, and the soda later crystallised, leaving the alkali chromate solution. Silica is separated as sodium aluminium silicate, which is precipitated more readily by boiling under increased pressure.
