Abstract
279,541. Richardson, M. F. July 26, 1926. Check lift valves.- A pump valve comprises a ported seat member 1 and a sheetmetal valve member having an annular arched ridge 5 intermediate plane surfaces with upturned peripheral edges 6, the highest point of the ridge coinciding with the centre line of the port openings. A sheet-metal valve stop comprising a convex portion 7 with a lateral lip 13 concentric with the highest portion of the ridge is secured by a nut 12 on a shoulder 9 on the fixed guide pin 2. A loading spring 15 is arranged close in to the guide pin so that when the valve is open the spring is enclosed in the cavity formed by the valve member and stop plate which cavity also acts as a cushioning chamber. Also, when the valve is open the stop and arched ridge jointly form an uninterrupted receding surface, so reducing the head resistance of the valve.
