Abstract
260,865. Fairweather, H. G. C., (Whittemore, Hulbert, Whittemore, & Belknap). April 19, 1926. Cleaning, fluid-pressure processes for.-A boiler clearer comprises a blower head 18, Figs. 1 and 7, rotated from a wormwheel 33 through a rod 20 and having tortuous passages formed by ribs 31, Figs. 1, 3 and 5, terminating in nozzles N<1> - - N<6>, inclined at different angles, the passages being fed with steam from a port 27, in the device shown in Fig. 1, with cooling-fluid from a port 30. In the device shown in Fig. 1, lubrication is effected by means of a piston 43 working in an oil chamber 40 and operated by the rotation of rod 20 and chamber 40, which moves the chamber 40 relatively to a screwed shank 44, the oil passing along a channel 38 in the rod 20 and through channels 52, 54. In the device shown in Fig. 7, a conduit 57 is provided for conducting steam from the inlet 25 to exert pressure on a piston 55. In this case, a thrust bearing 37 provided to take up end pressure due to the jets may be omitted, the effective area of the piston 55 being made to balance the blower head substantially against longitudinal thrusts. The moment of the transverse thrust R is also arranged to be balanced by the moment of the reaction F of the steam as it enters the tortuous passage, so that the blower head is balanced against the transverse reaction of the steam.
