Description

Description
Display device comprising an electrooptical display The present invention refers to a Display device comprising an electrooptic display.
Such known Display devices comprise a frame carrying the electrooptic display. Especially in automotive applications this frame is made of metal. A pot like housing is connected to the frame and is positioned on the back side of the display device. The electrooptical display comprises a front side being able to display information.
The electrooptical display is connected to the frontside of the frame and the pot like housing is connected to the back side of the frame. In this manner torsions originating from the pot like housing or the connection between the pot like housing and the frame may influence the electro-optical display and notably the Black uniformity of the electrooptical display, especially if it comprises a liquid crystal.
Known connections like screws or random bayonets provide additional problems relating to stability and undesired noise creation.
The task of the present invention is to provide a before described Display device with no or at least less Black uniformity issues, a good stability and no undesired noise creation.
This task is reached by a display device with the features of claim 1 and a method for producing such a display device with the features of claim 12. The dependent claims provide provisions of the invention. Since the frame comprises a channel and the pot like housing comprises a sidewall extending from a bottom of the pot like housing to a rim of the sidewall and the rim of the sidewall and parts of the sidewall adjacent to the rim are inserted into the channel and connected to sidewalls of the channel by a glue between the rim including the parts of the sidewall adjacent to the rim and the sidewalls of the channel it is reached, that the frame and the pot like housing can easily match together and little tolerances between this two parts a regulated by the glue connecting this two parts. The glue itself gets very less torsion since the sidewalls of the cannel provide a fixed boundary and prevent a motion of the sidewalls perpendicular since the channel is filled with the parts of the sidewall and the glue.
If a silicone is used as the glue small motions between the two parts are possible 5 without a breaking of the glue connection.
If the channel extends from a surface of the backside of the frame into the direction to the frontside of the frame an easy insertion and positioning of the pot like housing in the channel and so mounting of the pot like housing to the frame can be reached.
If the sidewalls of the channel extend from the backside in a perpendicular direction from the surface of the backside of the frame, the insertion of the sidewalls of the pot like housing is further improved and possible tensions between the two parts can be minimized or even avoided totally.
If the sidewall of the pot like housing comprises in a cross section perpendicular to the front side of the display a plurality of curves additional regions of the side walls can be created which provide additional elasticity of the pot like housing and reduce furthermore possible tensions between the pot like housing and the frame.
If the sidewall comprises in a cross section parallel to the front side of the display a plurality of curves abrupt changes of the direction of the side wall can be prevented. So a more easy assembly of the pot like housing to the frame can be reached. Furthermore, the pot like housing can be easily produced by deep drawing of a metal sheet.
If the sidewall of the pot like housing comprises an opening, additional parts like a plug or cable can be mounted in this opening. Furthermore, the cooling of the display device can be optimized.
If the bottom comprises an opening, additional parts like a plug or cable can be mounted in this opening. Furthermore, the cooling of the display device can be optimized.
If the frontside of the electrooptical display is protected by a transparent cover, especially a transparent cover plate, the electrooptical display is better protected. Furthermore, this transparent cover can be partly imprinted or partly covered with a foil so that the optical appearance of the display module is enhanced.
If the frame is made of metal a stable construction and an improvement of the cooling of the display module can be reached.
If the glue is dispensed into the channel and then the rim of the pot like housing is inserted into the channel the glue is at the position where it is needed and does not impurify parts where it is not needed. The amount of the glue to be filled into the channel totally should be chosen in that way that no glue leaves the channel after the pot like housing is inserted into the channel. In this manner it is assured that the glue remains in the channel and does not impurify other parts in advance it is set.
The invention will now be described with the help of the figures.
Fig 1 shows a view onto the back of one first example of a Display device according the invention Fig. 2 shows the cut A-A of Fig.1 Fig. 3 shows a view onto the back of one second example of a Display device according the invention Fig. 4 shows the cut B-B of Fig. 3 Fig. 5 shows a partly amplification of Fig. 4 In Fig. 1 one can see a back side 103 of a frame 100 and a pot like housing 200.
In Fig. 2 is shown the frame 100 with a front side 102 and the back side 103, an opening 104 and a channel 101 with side walls 1010. Furthermore, one can see the pot like housing 200 with side walls 220 and a bottom 210. The side walls 220 comprise a side wall rim 221 and parts 222 of the sidewall 220 adjacent to the side wall rim 221. A preferably used illumination device comprising preferably one or more light sources and at least one light guide which would be situated between the Display 300 and the frame 100 is not displayed.
The parts 222 of the sidewall 220 adjacent to the side wall rim 221 and the side wall rim 221 are inserted into the channel 101 and fixed with a glue 400, which is shown only in the left part of channel 101 but also present on the right side and all parts 222 of the sidewall 220 adjacent to the side wall rim 221 which are inserted into the channel 101. The Channel 101 completely revolves in this example the opening 104, but the channel may have one or more interruptions. In these interruptions the side wall rim 221 would be on or above the back side 193 of the frame 100. At least an electrooptical display 300 with a front side 301 is shown. On this front side 301 information can be displayed. A possible illumination of the electrooptical display is not displayed. This illumination could be positioned behind the electrooptical display 300, which would be positioned in Fig.2 above the display 300. Furthermore, the display 300 could be protected by a transparent cover, especially a transparent cover plate, which would be in Fig. 2 below the electrooptical display 300. Please note that the proportions of Fig. 1 and Fig. 2 are only illustrative but are likely not to reflect a real solution.
In Fig. 3 the view onto the back of one second example of a Display device according the invention shows a pot like housing 200 with a bottom 210 and side walls 220 and a frame 100. The bottom 210 comprises at least two openings 211. In one of the openings 211 is inserted a plug 230. This plug might provide the electrical and data connection of the display device.
In Fig 4 one can see the pot like housing 200 with the bottom 210 and the side walls 220. The sidewalls 220 comprise two bents 224 which improve the stability of the pot like housing 200. An electrooptical display 300 and a transparent cover plate 500 are furthermore shown.
Fig. 5 shows in a partly amplification of Fig. 4 the frame 100 with a channel 101 comprising side walls 1010, a front side 102 and a back side 103. The pot like housing 200 is shown with the side wall 220 comprising two bents 224, a rim 221 and a part 222 of sidewall 221 adjacent to side wall rim 221. The rim 221 and the part 222 of sidewall 221 adjacent to side wall rim 221 are inserted into the channel 101 and connected to the side walls by a glue 400. One can realize that the glue does not completely fill the channel 101. In this manner it is reached that no glue will impurify other parts of the display device in advance the glue is set. Additionally, the electrooptical device 300 and the cover plate 500 are shown. The cover plate 500 may be fixed to the frame 100 in any useful known manner and may comprise some imprints or other coverings so that the fixing of the cover plate 500 to the frame 100 is invisible for an observer of the electrooptical display 300.
