Opening by cutting or tearing. - A flanged diaphragm 8 of paper, cardboard, or sheet metal, formed with a flange 9 preferably having an outwardly-turned lip 10, is held in place within the folded joint formed between the side wall and the upper end or-lid seating 3 of a canister. The folded lip portion may continue throughout the fold or joint or may terminate as shown in Fig. 3.
