Abstract

265,779. Kluge, K., and Berthold, W. Feb. 16, 1926. Date indicators.-A date indicator comprises a series of coaxial discs marked with the year, months, weeks and days of the week and provided'with teeth or toothed wheels so constructed and disposed that by a single ratchet pawl movement per day the discs are correctly adjusted allowance being made for the varying numbers of days of the months and for leap year. As shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the discs have internal teeth for engagement, by spring pawls f, g, on a central spindle i with an external operating knob, the pawls being oscillated between stops h. The disc a for the days of the week has teeth a<1> and is actuated by the pawl g. The pawl f has a radially extendable arm f<1> passing through the other discs b, c, d, and e, the engagement with the discs being under the control of the teeth thereof. The date figures are arranged on two discs b, c, Figs. 5 and 6, with teeth b<1> and irregular teeth c<1>, c<2> respectively, a gap b<3> being provided in the front, disc b so that after the 15th of the month the 16th on the disc c will be exhibited through the notch b<2> and the bent arm f<1> of the pawl will thereafter cooperate with the teeth c<1> to advance the disc c. The month name disc d and the year disc e which has the leap year numbers repeated four times have also irregular teeth so as to control the position of the arm f<1>. The teeth c<2> of the disc c are formed so that after the end of the month the pawl g for the disc a advances the disc c together with the disc a to bring the numeral 10 into alignment with the aperture k of the casing. At the same time a catch on the month disc d engaging one of the holes b<4> on the disc b to exhibit the numeral 1. To take account of the extra day in leap year the year disc e has the leap year number repeated four times this number being exhibited in succession at the beginning of the year, end of January, 29th February and 1st March respectively. In a modification the disposition of the discs is identical but these are provided with wheels having external teeth of irregular formation and actuated by pawls pivoted to an arm rotatably mounted on the central spindle. In another form the pawls may be actuated by clockwork as shown in Fig. 19. The spindle of the hour hand through gearing l, m, drives a cam o<1> to oscillate an arm r. The arm r is provided with a hollow extension through which passes a rod s which is secured to the arm r by a pin t and is connected by a link s<1> to the pawl carrying arm f<13>. If the clockwork should stop the pin t may be removed so that the calendar can be operated by hand movement of the rod s.
