Abstract
264,011. Ashley, W. E., Tart, H., and Barker, D. Dec. 29, 1925. Rotary strainers.-A vertical strainer b, Fig. 1, is rotated by a worm d within a casing a having an inlet e and an outlet f for the strained liquid. Solid matter arrested by the strainer falls to the lower part a' of the casing and is discharged through a pocketed drum or paddle wheel g, Fig. 2, to a sump. Water supplied through a passage a<2> and jets k washes sediment from the strainer into a hood j and thence through a passage a<3> to the sump. The upper parts of the sides of the hood act as scrapers. The wheel g may be replaced by a vertical worm which pushes the solid matter through a balanced non-return valve. With the arrangement shown in Fig. 5 the hood j is mounted on a shaft o which can be turned by a hand wheel p or by power to collect solid matter from the flat bottom of the casing and push it through an opening a<4>.
